Give Help

Volunteer

Sherwood Forest Food bank are recruiting volunteers to help us to run our Food bank as effectively as possible. We are currently looking for volunteers to help at our satellite food bank at St Peter's Church, Mansfield - open every Wednesday between 10:30-12:30.

If you think you'd be interested or know someone who could be, please contact us on 07932 452533. Alternatively email us - [email protected]

What kind of things need to be done?

We don’t expect one person to do all of the things listed below, but we need individuals who could do one (or any!) of the following:-

1. Collect food donations that have been taken to local Supermarkets
2. Go shopping at the Cash & Carry or Supermarket to buy food items that we are short of.
3. Monitor the stock in our Storage facility – moving it to and from the food bank warehouse when necessary
4. Inputting data regarding food vouchers that have been fulfilled that week.
5. Helping to run the warehouse
6. Helping to run the ‘front of house’ where the clients are dealt with
7. Be our Treasurer
8. Keep our Website and Facebook Page updated

How much time will I have to give to this?

At the moment about 2-3 hours a week, but the more additional volunteers that we can recruit, then the less each of us will have to do, and the less time we will have to give!!

What kind of people are we looking for?
We already have a superb bunch of volunteers who help to pack food parcels for our clients, together with other volunteers who meet and greet the clients and make them feel welcome. These volunteers are our foundation and help us to operate each week.

Warehouse volunteer

We need help to weigh, sort and store donated food before it’s made into parcels for clients to collect. You could help in this vital work to ensure we have the right food available at all times.

Voucher coordinator

Foodbanks work with front line agencies who in turn refer clients to foodbanks. Some foodbanks have over 100 referral partners and in this role you will be coordinating the issuing and distribution of vouchers to these agencies. Once the vouchers are redeemed the data they contain needs to be added to our central database. Full training and support is available.

Helping at a foodbank centre

Meet clients and give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.

Web editor

Our local website needs constant attention. Could your digital skills help communicate our message to a local and global audience? You will need to know a little about websites and ideally have experience of using WordPress (though training and support is available).

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

If you are interested in volunteering please email [email protected], we’d love to hear from you!
